John Van Oorst, 1st/1st  8vo, bound in its original green blind stamped publishers cloth, gilt lettered to spine.  The contents are complete, meeting collation: xvi, 451 pages, complete with 28 plates as list (some coloured).  The binding is holding firmly and is in good condition, with some bumping to the corners/ extremities of the boards, a few nicks to head of spine, backstrip and top inside corners of boards browned. Contents are holding firmly and are generally in good condition throughout, text leaves toned and with some scattered foxing/browning, heavier at points, notably through final few gatherings, occasional minor smudges or dust marking. Single wormhole/track toward head of gutter between pp267-367, diminishing and increasing in size at points but remaining within the inside margin. Plate I with a few thin tracks in upper margin, frontis with thinner tracks at equalivalent points. A very pale tide mark to a couple of plates at rear.Original yellow endpapers, two old owners inscriptions to the upper.We are selling an entire first and early edition collection of Darwin and other Victorian naturalist. in many cases we have several copies of the same Darwin titles in similar condtion, including presentation copies.  Please ask for a complete catalogue.
