George Allen and Unwin, 1946. Very good book with good jacket. All first editions of the Hobbit are now very rare, even more so with original, unrestored dust jacket. These war time editions had very thin recycled paper and the dust jackets were particularly susceptible to damage. While this jacket is worse for wear, its still has average damage and it presents well overall in protective Mylar. Jacket is missing a 2 inch section to lower spine as shown. Tattering to spine head, corners with closed tears on several seams. Book is clean, no foxing, larger gift inscription to blank front end page. Spine is slightly round from reading. Green tinting to top edge of pages present. Priced affordably due to the jacket damage. Don’t delay! It’s a rare opportunity to own a first edition without spending thousands.
